Educational Objectives

A greater understanding of how the exposome impacts respiratory health is important for any member of the healthcare team (i.e., physicians, nurses, respiratory therapists) interacting with patients with pulmonary disease. This conference will provide a broad overview of the diverse exposures that may impact respiratory health so that members of the interprofessional healthcare team can provide information and guidance to patients.

Upon completion of this conference, the attendees should be able to:

  • Understand the impact of indoor and outdoor air pollution on the lungs;
  • Explore the impact of climate change on lung health;
  • Translate basic science data on the exposome to the clinical realm;
  • Explain the role of social determinants of health in lung disease;
  • Develop an understanding of how smoking and e-cigarette use alters lung biology;
  • Understand how the environment impacts the pulmonary microbiome in asthma and COPD.

Target Audience

The target audience for this conference is practicing physicians, nurses, fellows-in-training, allied health personnel, basic and translational researchers, respiratory therapists, public health experts, other healthcare or academic professionals with a major clinical or research interest in pulmonary medicine.
